Our environmental performance

Reducing our environmental impact remains one of LCP's strategic priorities. While we continue to make progress in managing emissions from our own operations, this year has been an important step forward in building a more complete understanding of our overall environmental impact and the actions needed to achieve our long-term ambitions.

Over the past year, we have focused on strengthening the data and systems that underpin our environmental strategy. Through our sustainability management platform, Sweep, we have continued to improve the quality and consistency of our carbon data, giving us greater insight into where emissions occur and enabling us to model the impact of future reduction initiatives.

A significant milestone this year has been mapping our supplier emissions to develop a much more comprehensive picture of our Scope 3 footprint. This work represents a major step towards understanding our full value chain emissions and provides the foundation for developing a robust Net Zero transition plan that will guide our future reduction efforts.

Alongside this, we continue to reduce emissions from our own operations. We have been operationally carbon neutral (through offsets) for our Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2021, and our carbon emission intensity has dropped 44% since 2018, from 1.093MWh per FTE to 0.612MWh per FTE.

Alongside our longer-term strategy, we continue to invest in practical initiatives that help reduce our environmental impact. These include:

  • Supporting the transition to electric vehicles: Through our partnership with Octopus Electric Vehicles, colleagues can access electric vehicles through the Electric Dreams salary sacrifice scheme, making lower-carbon travel more affordable. 38 colleagues have taken advantage of the scheme to date.
  • Generating renewable energy on-site: Our Winchester office already generates around 6% of its energy requirements from solar panels, and in August 2026 is installing a further 78 solar panels, expected to generate at least an additional 20MWh of renewable electricity each year.

While we are proud of the progress we have made, we recognise that achieving Net Zero will require continued collaboration, investment and innovation. By improving our understanding of our emissions and embedding sustainability into the decisions we make every day, we are building a stronger foundation for long-term environmental impact.

Ways in which we limit our environmental impact

As a business, we take a wide range of actions to limit our environmental impact, some of which are below.

Reduce / Reuse / Recycle

  • We reduce the amount of outgoing waste where possible, and reuse office materials where possible
  • We operate separate waste stream systems for mixed media recycling, food waste recycling, and general waste (which goes to an energy from waste facility)
  • Irreparable or redundant business equipment is disposed of appropriately via certified environmental waste management service providers, including the practice of donating redundant equipment to charities

Paper

  • We minimise the use of paper in the office by using “pull printing” with the defaults set to double-sided printing
  • Our paper is responsibly sourced and we engage with our suppliers to ensure their standards meet our environmental requirements

Energy and water

  • Our London and Winchester Offices have the BREEAM “Excellent” environmental accreditation
  • We use energy efficient lighting operated via movement sensors
  • We monitor our water, gas and electricity consumption to identify and prevent waste
  • We consider the environmental impact when replacing equipment
  • We have solar panels in place on the roof in our Winchester office

Transport and travel

  • We encourage partners and staff to use public transport
  • We provide an interest free season ticket loans policy, secure bike storage facilities, cycle to work initiative and car-sharing policy
  • We promote e-working and the use of video and phone conferencing to reduce travel

Office practices

  • We purchase high quality furniture and equipment which has longer service use expectancy

Driving the energy transition

Our energy practice, LCP Delta works at the forefront of innovation to reach a sustainable future. Our mission is to enable a better, faster energy transition.

We support our clients in a variety of ways including:

  • improving the roll out of low carbon technologies by helping companies to develop new business models,
  • improving policy and regulation to support the delivery of the energy transition,
  • helping companies to operate their low carbon energy assets more efficiently, and
  • developing new ideas and approaches that are helping to shape the energy market.

Some specific examples of work we have carried out this year:

We have been involved with several Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) projects this year, helping to accelerate the transition.

  1. A project working on microgrids which will support critical commercial and industrial sites in the North East.
  2. An innovation that will make it easier for renewable energy sources such as wind and solar to connect to the grid.
